The studio
I shoot slowly, and only what is really there
No stiff posing, no shouting for smiles. I work quietly at the edge of a room, wait for the moment people forget the camera, and take that frame instead.
Everything is made in available light where possible — a window, a doorway, the last half hour before sunset. It means the pictures look like the day felt rather than like a set, and it means you spend the session living it instead of performing it.
Vela Grove is deliberately small. I take a limited number of commissions each season so that every gallery is edited by hand, frame by frame, rather than run through a preset and sent out.
