Light that remembers the room

A small studio photographing people as they actually are — unhurried, in whatever light the day gives us.

  • What we photograph

Portrait sittings, wedding days and brand work made on location.

  • How it arrives

A private online gallery of finished frames, with full-resolution files to keep.

  • Booking window

Currently taking commissions for the coming spring and summer.

The studio

I shoot slowly, and only what is really there

No stiff posing, no shouting for smiles. I work quietly at the edge of a room, wait for the moment people forget the camera, and take that frame instead.

Everything is made in available light where possible — a window, a doorway, the last half hour before sunset. It means the pictures look like the day felt rather than like a set, and it means you spend the session living it instead of performing it.

Vela Grove is deliberately small. I take a limited number of commissions each season so that every gallery is edited by hand, frame by frame, rather than run through a preset and sent out.

Sessions

Three ways to work together

Each commission is quoted after we talk, so the figures below are starting points rather than packages to pick from.

Relaxed outdoor portrait of a smiling person in warm diffused daylight.

  • Planning call and timeline read-through
  • Six to ten hours of coverage
  • Preview set within a week

From $2,400 · travel quoted separately

Low sunlight filtering through tall trees in a quiet grove, a favourite on-location setting.

On location & brand work

Selected work

A short edit from recent seasons

Ten or twelve frames say more than a hundred. These are the ones I keep coming back to.

How it works

From first message to finished gallery

Four steps, no surprises. You will always know what happens next.

  1. 01

    You write

Send the date, the kind of session and anything you already know. I reply with availability and a straight answer on cost.

  2. 02

    We talk it through

A short call to agree the plan: where we shoot, what light we are chasing and how much coverage the day actually needs.

  3. 03

    The shoot

I arrive early, stay out of the way and keep working while everyone else forgets I am there. You are never asked to hold a pose.

  4. 04

    The edit

Frames are selected and finished by hand, then delivered in a private gallery with full-resolution files ready for printing.

Questions

Asked often, answered plainly

How far in advance should I book?
Wedding dates are usually held six to twelve months ahead, and the warmer months fill first. Portrait sittings are far more flexible — a few weeks is often enough, and short-notice dates do open up.
What happens if the weather turns?
Grey light is kind light, so most sittings go ahead as planned. If it is genuinely unworkable we move to an indoor location we have already agreed on, or reschedule to the next suitable date at no extra cost.
How long until I see the photographs?
A small preview set arrives within a week. Complete portrait galleries follow in about two weeks, and full wedding galleries in four to six, depending on how many frames the day produced.
Can I print the files myself?
Yes. Every gallery includes full-resolution files and permission to print them for personal use. If you would rather not deal with labs, I can prepare files sized for a specific printer or album maker.

Enquire

Tell me about the day you have in mind

Every commission starts with a short message. There is no obligation in asking, and I will tell you honestly if I am not the right photographer for it.

  • The date, or the rough window you are working toward
  • Where it happens, even if it is only a general area
  • Who is being photographed, and how many people
  • Anything that matters to you that I would not guess
Replies usually go out the same week.
